Over the past year or so, my wife and I have been learning form a group of people that intently focus on this "balanced and integrated life" (disclaimer, this group is via our local church). One of the "cogs" of this learning is "The Triangle".
At first glance, the Triangle is ...
This concept is illustrated through part of a story from Luke, in the Bible, which says:
"One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles ... When they came down from the mountain, the disciples stood with Jesus on a large, level area, surrounded by many of his followers and by the crowds. There were people from all over Judea ... They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those troubled by evil spirits were healed."
First, Jesus spends some quality time alone with God (UP). Second, he pours into a few select people (the 12 disciples) and teaches them, investing heavily into their life (IN). Third, he works with the disciples and goes "out" to share his story in a relevant way with others and simply "love on them" (OUT). Jesus was one of the greatest leaders of all time. He lived an amazing life of influence. I want my life to influence others as well, so I have been looking at what made the life of Jesus so influential. As my wife and I have been studying his life we have observed that he was committed to these 3 primary "loves" in his life (UP, IN and OUT).
I'll spend some time on subsequent B+H+L posts diving into each corner of the triangle (UP, IN and OUT) in further detail. For this post, I have a question/challenge for you ... if you were to evaluate your life with respect to The Triangle, what corner is lacking? What one is strong? Why? Should you make some changes to your current "balance", with respect to the Triangle?
Personally, my "UP" has been lacking as of late. With the busy-ness that has consumed our family over the past few months trying to get our 2nd location open for our retail business, my solo time with God has been (sadly) pushed a bit to the side. I need to make more dedicated time for "UP" in my life. How about you? Please comment below.
