I've recently been learning about God's calling on my life to be a disciple … simply put, living a life worth imitating and pointing people to Him. In Philippians chapter 3, a guy named Paul calls the people of the Philippi church to pattern their lives after him. Paul, pretty much the "mack daddy" disciple, gives a clear example of what we are to challenge people to be, with respect to living our lives for Christ.
"Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth."
~ Philippians 3:17-19 NLT
Paul says, "come live like me" and you'll be closer to Christ. Don't follow those others, that choose their appetite, or bragging, or self-centeredness as their idol. Follow me, I will show you how to live like Christ would want us to live.
Wow, those are big words ... big challenge. A big challenge to those that are listening to Paul and a big personal challenge to Paul, to continue to live a life worth imitating. What does that mean for me?
THAT IS SCARY! Who am I to say that you should live your life or do your business like me? Truth is, I don't believe that I am. But, I'm hopeful that you'll see Christ's reflection in me and my family and business, and that you'll seek to replicate that, in a way that is appropriate for your context. And, hopefully that will lead you to live a life more "in line" with how Jesus would live if he were here today.
Thoughts? I'd love to know what y'all think on this.
